Our Story
I grew up surrounded by the Peak District and took most of it for granted. The edges and the cloughs, the blanket bog, the limestone dales; it was always there, always beautiful, and I knew almost nothing about it. Not what grew there, not what it had been used for, not the centuries of knowledge that had accumulated around it - and then stopped being passed down.
What I eventually came to understand is that caring for the natural world and knowing the natural world are the same thing. You cannot love what you do not understand; and understanding this landscape, its plants and its ecology and its history, changes the way you move through it entirely.
Hallow is built on that conviction. The candles, teas and bath salts are made with botanicals native to the Peak District; each one chosen for what it does and grounded in what it has always been used for. The products are a way in, but the landscape is the point.
Caring for the natural world and knowing the natural world are the same thing.
You cannot love what you do not understand.
Their restoration is one of the most significant things that can be done for the climate in this country, and it is happening here, now, through the work of organisations like Moors for the Future.
One percent of every Hallow order goes directly to that work; because the moors that inspire everything we make are worth far more than inspiration.

The knowledge of what this landscape produces, and what it is capable of, was built up over generations by people who paid attention - something we have sadly stopped doing.
Hallow is, in part, an argument for starting again.
